History

Surrey Chapter UK, AKA Surrey HOG, was founded in October 1991 and was sponsored by the Surrey Harley Davidson Dealership based in Dorking as their Harley-Davidson Owners Group #9084. The dealership and the club grew steadily and by the year 2001 when we won the HOG European Rally chapter competition we were just about the largest and busiest HOG in Europe. We had a great time celebrating the Harley-Davidson Centenary in 2003 and in 2004 we were involved with organising the first South of England HOG Rally at Bisley.

Sadly things were already going badly wrong with the dealership and there were five changes of Dealer Principle in two years. By 2004 the dealership no longer supported us financially and in 2005 DP #9 attempted to sack our Chapter Director and take over the position himself. However, with the backing of 99% of our members we resisted the pressures of the corporations and became fully independent. Soon afterwards the dealership closed down. We have never been part of the Hogs Back Chapter #7846 which was only started in 2009.

we have continued to have loads of fun meeting great people all over the UK, Europe and the world while riding our Harleys. We also ride to help others and hold sponsored events to raise money for local good causes. Members have for example ridden all the River Thames crossings inside the M25, ridden 1000 miles in 24 hours, ridden in India and climbed Mt Kilimanjaro. In total in recent years we have raised over £82,000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust, the Tadworth Children's Trust, the Sherwood Park School, the Cancer Research Unit in Guildford, Hampton Court Palace and Headley Court.

We have one or more ride outs most weekends of the year and annually organise around a dozen trips away in the UK and beyond. We hold a club night every second Thursday of the month from 7.00pm at The Star PH, Kingston Road, Malden Rushett, Leatherhead, KT22 0DP and have many other social events and parties. We send members a weekly news email, a colour magazine, have an online forum, a Face Book page, a ride out telephone hotline, an online photo-gallery and arrange discounts from various suppliers, advertisers and sponsors.

We are a friendly bunch and we just love getting together to have fun and meet people while riding our Harleys; and we do just that, often and all year round. If you'd like to join us there is an application form on this site.
