Chateaux and Gateaux (aka Basel)

A Ride In The Black Forest
A preferred title would be "a riding holiday on the Bodensee".

As with all my trips I propose getting to a destination, unpacking and relaxing between interesting day rides before heading on the journey home. It is intended to be a trip that provides something for everyone, viz. riding, relaxing, sightseeing as well as drinking and eating. Did I mention educational?

It is the intention to ride down through France via Verdun and Nancy to the Bodensee to our hotel on the German side of the sea, which is significantly cheaper than the Swiss side although to be fair not that cheap. Our hotel is the Seehotel Linz, Langenargen, which if it got much closer to the water would fall in! I have reserved some double and single rooms at this seaside hotel providing for swimming, suntanning, restaurants, bars, etc. to relax in or lie on the beach.

We will have day rides around the local sightseeing areas of which there are many, including the Black Forest, around the Bodensee itself with all its magnificent sights and a day in Basel, a most attractive and historic city on the Rhine river at the juncture of France, Germany and Switzerland. We will also do a ride to the famous and magnificent Neuschwanstein Castle where Glenda Hedger's family used to live!

The itinerary will involve the Eurotunnel to France followed by a quick motorway ride from Calais to Verdun for an overnight stop before diving off into the French and German countryside to our hotel for a week of relaxation and riding after unpacking all our bits and pieces to relax. Our return will involve a few twists and turns through country areas less travelled through France with an overnight stop before heading up to the tunnel and home.

For pillions who may not wish to ride there and back from the UK they have the luxury of flying into Basel airport from where we shall collect them.

Participants must be able to ride at motorway speeds of up to 80mph and be capable of tackling a few mountain passes, which will not be over taxing.

If this is of interest to you please arrange to pay your deposits to Julie so that we can firm up numbers for the various hotel bookings. Costs will be advised as soon as I have numbers and we will work on a first come first served basis.

Cheers, Derek
