Provisional Dates are Sunday 15 May to Saturday 21 May 2022
Not yet available for booking.
We will take a ferry from Dover to Dunkirk then ride some 125 miles to Bergen Op Zoom staying at the Grand Hotel De Draak.
This lovely hotel in the middle of the city is the oldest in the Netherlands dating back to 1397. All rooms are of unique character and style. It has a wellness centre, (at a surcharge), is equipped with a fitness studio, a sauna, an infrared sauna and a Turkish bath and I’m sure we’ll all enjoy its facilities as well as the excellent riding available in the area. I plan to have lunch on a beach if you fancy a swim, to visit the HD Stealership in Goes, the Watersnood Museum and some beautiful old towns.
After three nights we'll move on to the Hotel Nimma in Nijmegen.
Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands. With its many welcoming, historic streets its also one of the best shopping cities. It has a large selection of shops, cafes, terraces and excellent little restaurants where we can dine in the evenings. We will also take an evening river cruise on the Pancake Boat.
We’ll visit some of the sites associated with the World War II Operation Market Garden. We’ll follow the route of 30 Corps as they struggled in vain over heavily defended narrow roads and bridges to reach the embattled Airborne troops at Arnhem, (portrayed in the book and film A Bridge Too Far). We’ll visit Arnhem and the Airborne Museum Hartenstein and memorials in Oosterbeek. We will be riding on the good local roads with time to take in the lovely scenery and eating local foods.
We'll leave Nijmegen on Saturday and ride the 200 miles to Dunkirk for the afternoon ferry back to Dover. The two Hotels will total between £460 and £535 depending on room type and occupancy, plus extra for breakfast and parking.
I will be leading the rides on the motorways at 65 -70 mph when conditions allow. I will provide everyone with all the route and destination info well before we set off so if you prefer to take a different route or to have a more sedate ride then please feel free to make your own way.
