Ride To The Wall 2024

Saturday 5 October

This is your chance to join thousands of other motorcyclists as an act of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum. The NMA is a moving garden of remembrance for all people of the UK and includes those such as nurses, firemen, postmen, stillborn children, 9/11 victims, road crash victims as well as soldiers, sailors and airmen who died in service since the 2nd World War; for more info take a look at www.thenma.org.uk.

Registrations opened on the 21st April and you may register your intention to ride and/or support the event by making a £10 donation at https://www.rttw.org/index.php. We suggest you join hundreds of other motorcyclists and select ride-in 'Start Location: Leicester Forest Services' and choose Surrey Chapter UK as your club at the point of payment.

You will receive a year bar and your name can also be added to the scroll of attendance, recognising the contribution you have made and the pride and respect that you show for the sacrifice made by those with their names on the Armed Forces Memorial. You may also add a name of your choice to the scroll of remembrance.

As you ride to and from the National Memorial Arboretum towards the end of our regular rideout season this is also a good chance to think about those friends who were members of Surrey Chapter during the last 32 glorious years but who are no longer with us. This includes: Matthew Melly, David Carrick, Jeff Fallon, Carol & Andy Dube, Len & Margaret Harvey, Jim & Pat Basson, Steve Hutchinson, Mick Cox, Peter Agent, Robin Moorby, Dave 'Neptune' Phillips, and John Varty.

During the day there will be events and live music taking place from 9.30am to 5pm in 4 different locations; Veterans Village, Visitors Centre, Marquees and The Bastion Memorial and usually some aerial attractions.

There is no official ride to this event but you could use our Face Book page to ask who else is coming.

If you prefer you could have an early start from home on the Saturday morning and following the Service of Remembrance return home.

If you would like to stay overnight on the Friday night before or the Saturday night we recommend the Millers Hotel by Greene King Inns, Twycross Rd, Sibson, CV13 6LB. Phone: 01827 880223. £90 per night plus £10 per breakfast.

You must book your own room for any nights you wish to stay

The RTTW Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon the roads behind you.

May you be kept safe through rolling hills, twisting turns, from oil, gravel and dim-witted drivers and, until we meet again, may the blessing of the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Be upon You, and those whom you love

Now and always

Amen
