Normandy 2024

Saturday 10th August to Thursday 15th          

 

My trip in 2024 will be back to Normandy as there was so many places we missed and 2024 year being the 80th anniversary of D Day.     

Saturday 10th 

We will be catching the Ferry from New Haven which depart at 11 am and will arrive in Dieppe local time 4 pm then ride onto our Hotel in Honfluer which is approx 70 miles so away via motorway. 

Sunday 11th 

Leave the hotel and ride 35 miles to visit Sword Beach, then onto the Caen Museum 10 miles. Afterwards visit Caen Castle which is 3 miles away. This is a free museum. After we find somewhere for lunch ride 37 miles to our Ibis Hotel St Lo for the next 4 nights.

Monday 12th

Leave the hotel and ride 23 miles to Dead Mans corner, as the allies made their way off the beaches they moved inland, here the building was an aid station. An American Stuart tank hit by a Panzerfaust which killed the Tank Commander, 1st Lt Walter T Anderson. The priority was to move troops and artillery inland towards Carentan leaving no time for the dead and wounded. Lieutenant Andersons body was slumped out of the Tank Turret for days and the crossroads was known as Dean Mans Corner.

Accueil - D-Day Experience (dday-experience.com) from here we will ride to the area known as Maisy battery Visit Normandy - Maisy Battery . So secret was this area and after the war was covered over it wasn’t discovered until 60 years after the war had ended.  Onto the largest German Cemetery in Normandy La Cambe German Cemetery (normandy1944.info) . To lighten up the day we will move onto the home of Caramels D’isigny CARAMELS - Caramels d'Isigny (caramels-isigny.com) where you can see Sweets , ice cream and cream cheese being made and fill your saddle bags.. 

Tuesday 13th.

Ride 30 miles to visit the newly opened British Normandy memorial  British Normandy Memorial then onto the cinema Arromanches 360 • Circular cinema D-day movie in Normandy Landings lunch in Arromanches and visit the Accueil - Musée d'Arromanches (musee-arromanches.fr)

Wednesday 14th

I’ve allowed the whole day to visit here which is 50 miles from our hotel so arriving at about 10.30 and visit Le Mont Saint Michel  Mont-Saint-Michel - Wikipedia  The Magical Mont-Saint-Michel: an Island once more at high tide - YouTube have lunch here and explore this unique island where the Abbey is over 1000 years old and the island remained unconquered in 1433 during the hundred years war. Leave when were ready and ride the 50 miles back to the hotel.  

Thursday 15th

Leave the hotel and make our way to Dieppe which is 140 miles but I'll break up this journey to catch the returning ferry which departs at 6 pm and arrives New Haven 9 pm UK time. 

I'm hoping to arrive 2 pm in Dieppe allowing us time to visit the Dieppe museum .
